2008 Boatercross Results

The 2008 Boatercross was held in O-Deck.  Instead of the preliminary heats advertised in the event description, the competitors voted for a mass start race.  They lined up against the Flake, waited for the starting judge to shout "Go!" and then careened through the rapid.  There were two buoys to negotiate: one in the big river left eddy and one at the bottom of Fisherman's Eddy.  After rounding the second buoy, competitors had to paddle back to the top of the eddy and touch a slanted rock.  Geoff Calhoun won the race thanks to a great start, with Adam Van Grack close on his heels and Louis Geltman finishing third.  Also worthy of note was Sang Nguyen, who may have been in a little over his head, but showed sangfroid and finished with a true competitor's spirit.
